After a visit in July to Lizard point I was taken by the variety of birds resting on this rock just off shore.

Black backs

Step1

I prepared the board with several layers of gesso sanding down to a smooth finish but with some tooth. Washing very bold diluted acrylic to set the tone.

Step2

Blocking in he darks and primarily worked on the turquoise sea. But did add detail to the lower shelf and the 2 Oystercatchers which will be hardly visual and secondary to the main birds

Step 3

Creating the tones of the lichen covered rocks and pink granite

Step 4

More detail added and refined using the fissures of the rocks to create focus on the subjects to come.

Finished off the rocks and lichens, etc and started adding some birds

Continued with the birds there are 2 Cormorants in the picture. I felt the gulls flying off the rock added to the movement.
I could have left the painting above but felt there should be a slight mist to bring the paining together.
